Beta Program

In September 2009 we officially launched our Beta program to provide customers with an early view of SambaJAM and an opportunity for our community to provide input into the final product. Thank you to our beta users for your continued support and product feedback. We have reached a key milestone in our roadmap and look forward to seeing SambaJAM live in the New Year.

Journal

2009 has been a year of significant discovery for SambaStream. We have grown from an idea to a fully functional organisation. We have learnt more about our business and the people we rely on day to day whilst steadily moving towards our goal of creating the world’s most powerful online workplace. We appreciate in greater depth the opportunity we have created and the talented people we are fortunate to work with.

Our greatest achievement in 2009 was launching SambaJAM. SambaJAM is a web application that provides users with a secure online workspace to share documents and work collaboratively with colleagues. This year we released SambaJAM Beta edition with the following key features:

  • Document Library (file system) for securely managing document and their versions.
  • A rich and intuitive Interface for previewing office documents online.
  • Microsoft Office Integration
  • Online Editing for office documents enabling users to edit document in the browser without needing to download the document to make changes.
  • Configurable dashboards for aggregating and monitoring workspace activity.
  • Wikis enabling teams to share and edit html web pages online.
  • Discussions providing online forums for capturing and tracking group discussions.
  • Calendars to allow teams to share meetings and events.
  • Space Members enabling users to invite and add users quickly and easily to SambaJAM via email and address books.

As we continue to work closely with our clients to design SambaJAM we will be introducing new functionality. Here are some new additions to look forward to in the New Year as we continue to expand SambaJAM’s core features:

  • Micro-blogging and Expert Search. We will be updating the user profiles page to provide richer social-networking features to enable business colleagues to connect and share information easily. This will make finding experts within your organisation straight forward. It will also ensure important conversations are not lost in email inboxes, but are instead kept in a centralised searchable knowledge base.
  • Task Management. We are developing an easy to use and flexible task management feature to support planning, team working and delivery.
  • Mobile Edition – We are working on our mobile edition of SambaJAM to support users who require mobile access to their SambaJAM file store. The mobile edition will be built to work across common mobile devices that support web browsing such as, Windows Mobile, IPhone and Blackberry.
  • Developer Platform – We will be releasing a developer API to enable our customers and third party system integrators to build extensions to SambaJAM.

USA Visit to San Francisco and Seattle

In May we made a trip to Silicon Valley, and on the way we stopped at the NetHope summit in Seattle to visit our NGO friends at Microsoft's Redmond HQ. During our trip we were privileged to meet many interesting people in the web technology industry and get a taste of how businesses operate in the US. We look forward to visiting the US again in the New Year.

Meeting International Delegates at the Technology World Conference

The UK Institute for Trade and Investment provided a great opportunity for us to meet international businesses and system integrators from all around the world: Japan, China, India, Libya, Hungary, Brazil, Turkey, Romania, Italy, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Spain to name a few. We look forward to following up with our new acquaintances in the New Year and to partner in growing SambaJAM’s international community.

Online Information 2009 Tradeshow

We had a very successful tradeshow at Online Information 2009, where we met a diverse range of businesses and partners. The feedback from the show was tremendous and we thank all the positive comments and ideas we received. It was comforting to meet businesses who shared the same frustrations we had regarding current workplace tools. Based on the feedback we received so far SambaJAM is a on a good path to become the workspace of the future. We look forward to re-connecting with everyone in the New Year.

Spotlight

This month we have chosen to highlight the work of aid agency Water Aid. Water Aid works in 17 countries providing water, sanitation and hygiene education to some of the world's poorest people. Through a modest donation you can support Water Aid to provide education and resources to improve living environments of those that need it most. Company Overview

SambaStream Ltd was founded in August 2008 by Alessandro Giannone, David Gildeh and Clarence Sittampalam with the aim to provide affordable and usable information management tools.

Before creating SambaStream the founders worked alongside leading enterprise software vendors in information management. Their professional lives have been spent at the forefront of software within this field, delivering large IT projects for both corporate, government and non-profit organisations. They noted that application suites typically come at great cost and were limited to those organisations with large IT budgets. In addition increased adoption of consumer electronics and the web have raised the expectation from end users for more sophisticated online tools for completing work. These trends provide the platform for a new type of software business.

By adopting the “software as a service” delivery model, SambaStream aims to provide its customers and partners with a more affordable on-demand service. This is especially true when compared to traditional software licenses and on-premise installations. SambaStream's goal is to become an innovative leader in the provision of online software.
